My creative process or the way in and the way out

a little space for the imagination
Creativity - Daily Projects, Ideas and Inspiration

Creativity is a way into your self and a way out of it, to life, to the world, to the alter ego, to the others, to freedom, to fulfillment or to success

The new year began really creatively ... Creativity is for us postmodern individuals, citizens of virtual technological postcapitalist societies of vital importance. The rapidly changing patterns of social life, public behavior, labor, knowledge, value, the surge waves of information produced daily induce the feeling of void in our souls and stack our minds. Creativity is a way out ...

Life as a creative person is not easy. Dissatisfaction is almost a given, as only someone who is dissatisfied with the status quo can be creatively productive. And earning money,  is not an easy thing for somebody who simultaneously has to be creative: You end up being service provider, craftsperson and artist, all at once. A balancing act, which time and time again leaves us in the lurch financially.

Creativity involves breaking out of expected patterns in order to look at things in a different way.

*[ Creativity is a phenomenon whereby something new and somehow valuable is formed. The created item may be intangible (such as an idea, a scientific theory, a musical composition or a joke) or a physical object (such as an invention, a literary work or a painting).

In a summary of scientific research into creativity, Michael Mumford suggested: "Over the course of the last decade, however, we seem to have reached a general agreement that creativity involves the production of novel, useful products" (Mumford, 2003, p. 110),[1] or, in Robert Sternberg's words, the production of "something original and worthwhile".[2]   -   Creativity from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia  ]

To me the most important Keys to Creativity are knowledge and action.

By knowledge I mean the huge pool of prexeisting concepts and experiences of the mankind.
Every new idea emerges for some sort of combination between two or more pre-existing concepts.

By that logic, the more knowledge you have of pre-existing concepts, the greater the potential to create unique connections between those concepts. The knowledge you choose to acquire will definitely impact the kinds of ideas you're going to have.

By action I mean continous experimentation, daily practice, every day work,  ...

The following  strategies / activities could help you quickly increase your creativity:
  • Read, visiting an exhibition or a concert  - Open a newspaper, a magazine, a book or another publicationt, and simply read. Visually encountering words and concepts often forms new free associations and spark creative thinking. In addition, expanding your knowledge base or stumbling upon a fantastic idea or new perspective can help your brain begin to move again.
  • Exercise  - Take a walk, jog, bike ride, swim or just visit the gym. The body is the base of our mindstates, feelings, emotions, ideas ...
  • Draw or play music ( a drum ) -
  • Remain positive - A lack of ideas or being unable to solve a problem can be extremely frustrating. Unless you value complete silence, music can be the thing to give your mood, and your creativity, a boost.
  • Meditate -  When you are struggling to be creative, it is easy to become distracted by other thoughts. These thoughts decrease your creativity by misleading and fatiguing you. If your mind is filled with too many distracting thoughts, set your work aside and un-clutter your mind by meditating.
  • Escape for a while - Make an interuption. Put your work aside for a short period of time and go for a  trip, make a travel or  Sail away!

For me creativity is something very personal.  Creative actions shape and determine the personal paths of life, creativity is the vessel for cruising through the ocean of accidents, failures, disatisfactions  or even desperations. It is the instrument to recover and reinvent yourself from bad situation. It is also the most powerful tool to solve problems, to find out efficient solutions, to change things and habits, to transform perspectives and to  succeed in your goals.

Bellow I document some personal creative activities from the last few weeks ... they are just my personal paths of life ...

"creative space, creative people and creative intentions"

the new year started really good for me. My good friend and studio neighbor, the artist Nicola Rübenberg from "Atelier Kleine Feder"  gave me one of her paintings! I gave it the title "Venice 1900" ... I have to integrate it in my creative environment as an object of inspiration ...  many thanks Nicola! ( Having creative people around you spurs you on and makes you better )

[ Venice. City of Artists ]

Some impressions from my visit of the Art Exhibition "`Venice - City of Artists"' in the Bucerius Kunst Forum in Hamburg.

Art / Culture is already a very powerfull social institution as religion ( church ), science ( university ) and politics ( parties ). Art influences in a multiple of ways the belifes, affects the behavior and shapes the life of million of modern individuals. We can observe the status and the affect of art in our lives by simply visiting an art exhibition.

Snapshots taken with a little Nikon 1 camera, intentionally blurred, out of focus or unsharp ...

"Like no other city, Venice has presented a challenge to artists throughout the centuries. Its location which is defined by the sea and its magnificent architectural backdrop along the Grand Canal convey the impression of a theatrical production that provokes an artistic response. From 1500 to the beginning of the twentieth century, Venice was celebrated by painters as the city of vision: Water, ships and processions provided a large audience with spectacles. Instead of paintings by the Venetian School, this exhibition focuses on the intense experiences triggered by the city and their transformation into art."
